Vancouver Golf Club 430The first stage of a comprehensive golf course draining project is set to start this month at Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club in Richmond, BC, as it plans to improve course conditions, year-round playability, and power cart use on fairways.

The drainage project will be led by engineering firm KellyAmi Inc., which has completed extensive drainage work on other courses in the area. Due to the extensive work that will need to take place, nine holes will be closed during the construction with an expected reopening by mid-April. The remaining nine holes will undergo drainage retrofitting in late 2014 or early 2015.

“We are extremely excited about this renovation. Once complete, it will provide much drier playing conditions, also adding the ability for power cart use year-round,” said Mayfair’s general manager, Mike Smedstad.

Designed by Les Furber, the 6-km (6641-yard) golf course, which has hosted many national tour events, has an abundance of lakes and waterways that come into play on 13 of its 18 holes.
