PD high-resPeter Dawson, chief executive of the R&A and secretary of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, has announced he will be retiring next September.

In 1999, Dawson became the joint secretary of the International Golf Federation (IGF) and was appointed president in 2010. During his time at the R&A, he has helped organize the Open Championship and substantially invested in supporting golf development around the world through rules education, grassroots initiatives, coaching, the provision of greenkeeping equipment, and university golf.

Through Dawson’s help, the R&A now works with 152 affiliated organizations from the amateur and professional game in 138 countries and jointly administers the Rules of Golf, the Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards, and the World Amateur Golf Ranking with the USGA.
