Nadon Constable Receive 430The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) has named the recipients of its 2013 Equipment Technician of the Year and Environmental Achievement awards.

The Equipment Technician of the Year, sponsored by John Deere Golf, is presented to the technician who best exhibits professionalism, innovation, and a team approach to make a significant contribution to their golf facility and golf community. The 2013 recipient is Sylvain Nadon, equipment technician at Club de Golf Rosemère in Rosemère, Que.

Nadon has spent his entire 32-year career at Rosemère and has worked for five superintendents during this period. His longevity is a testament to his ability and willingness to learn and adjust his knowledge and approach to fit the equipment changes that have occurred as well as the changes in personality of the five superintendents. He has also shared his skills and abilities with others in his profession and has worked with agronomists around the world to share his expertise.

The Environmental Achievement award, sponsored by Club Car, is presented to the superintendent who improves the sustainability of their golf facility. The 2013 recipient is Bruce Constable, master superintendent, CGCS at Woodside Golf Course in Airdrie, Alta.

He was selected for the award based on the golf course naturalization process that has been established for the Woodside property. Constable’s application reviewed the impacts on resource conservation, including reductions in fuel, water, fertilizer, labour, equipment use and related inputs such as wildlife habitat preservation and creation and community outreach.

The golf course started this program in 2005, and in 2008 it became a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary golf course.
