Non-profits Trees Ontario and the Ontario Forestry Association (OFA) have merged to create Forests Ontario, an organization dedicated to the renewal and stewardship of the province’s forests.

“Forests Ontario is the voice for Ontario’s forests,” said Rob Keen, CEO of Forests Ontario (formerly Trees Ontario CEO). “This merge has created an organization with enhanced capacity and allowed us to expand our delivery of environmental education, events, and programs. It also allows all Ontarians to invest in the future of our forests through donations, sponsorships, volunteerism, tree planting, community awareness events, and forest management.”

As a combined organization, Forests Ontario and its more than 85 partners will continue to offer a broad suite of programs and services as well as create a stronger public presence advocating for abundant, healthy, and sustainable forests. These include:

  • 50 Million Tree Program: a subsidy program to reduce landowners’ costs of large-scale tree planting;
  • Program for Local Afforestation Network Training (PLANT): a mentorship-based program aimed at post-secondary students;
  • Envirothon: an interactive, curriculum-based environmental education program for Grades 9 to 12; and
  • Community Tree Planting Weekend: an annual family-friendly half-day planting event held in several communities across Ontario in need of re-greening.
