Vancouver’s Stanley Park has been named the best in the world by TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Designated as a national historic site of Canada, the 400-ha (988-acre) park won for its natural West Coast rainforest and scenic views of water, mountains, sky, and trees along the park’s famous Seawall.

The other nine selections in the “Top 10 World Parks” were:

  • Central Park in New York City;
  • Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colo.;
  • High Line in New York City;
  • Millennium Park in Chicago, Ill.;
  • Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.;
  • Guell Park in Barcelona, Spain;
  • Luxembourg Gardens in Paris, France;
  • Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Calif.; and
  • Singapore Botanic Gardens in Singapore.

Opened in 1888, the park is celebrating its 125th birthday on August 24 and 25. City council has committed $200,000 to fund the event, while sponsors have chipped in $200,000 and the federal government has granted $95,000.
